Head of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Mines has highlighted capabilities in the field of information and communications technology (ICT) and says the private sector is ready for a strong presence in the ICT markets in neighboring Afghanistan and Iraq.

Iran has immense capacities and capabilities in the area of ICT, Gholam Hossein Shafe’ei said in a meeting with businesses in Tehran on Monday. The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi was present, Tasnim News Agency reported on January 17.

Referring to the regional countries’ needs in the field, he expressed the hope that Iran’s private sector would play a “more active role in the ICT markets” of the region.

The private sector “can dominate” the ICT markets in Iraq, Afghanistan and Central Asian countries, he was quoted as saying.

Iran has made progress in the field of information and communication technology in recent years and foreign firms have shown interest in cooperation with Iranian companies in the key sector.
