Iran-China MoU to Broaden Health Ties

Iranian Health Minister Hassan Qazizadeh Hashemi and his Chinese counterpart Li Bin on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding  to broaden bilateral ties in the health sector.

The MoU is aimed at developing cooperation between the two countries, IRNA reported.

Exchanging health and medical experts, transferring information related to public health and organizing medical conferences and symposiums are among articles of the MoU.

Traditional medicine, non-communicable diseases, primary healthcare, rural health, health policymaking, medical management, health system, health coverage, exchange of information regarding financing and health technology were among other topics mentioned in the MoU.  The MoU was signed a day after the Chinese side inked another agreement with Iran to provide $2 billion in finance for the construction of five hospitals in the Islamic Republic. The finance will be provided by the Exim Bank of China and China Development Bank.

The hospitals include two 1,000-bed hospitals for Shahid Beheshti University of Tehran, a 1,000-bed hospital for Iran’s University of Medical Sciences, a 330-bed hospital and a 540-bed hospital for Iran’s University of Medical Sciences. These are to be built under the supervision of Iran’s Health Ministry within four years.

China Exim Bank has financed dozens of projects in Iran.
