Shahid Rajaee Handles 60% of All Iranian Port Activities

Shahid Rajaee Port in the southern Hormozgan Province accounted for around 60% of all Iranian port activities last year (March 2016-17), the managing director of Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran said. “The significance of the port lies in the fact that it is located at the mouth of the Strait of Hormuz where nearly 50,000 vessels of different countries sail annually,” ILNA also quoted Mohammad Saeednejad as saying. Some 44 million tons of goods worth more than $11.14 billion were exported from and nearly 10 million tons worth $18.65 billion were imported to Iran via the major Iranian port last year, registering a 44% and 12% growth in tonnage and value respectively year-on-year.
