Iran was Iraq’s third biggest trading partner in 2016 after China and Turkey, the Iraqi commercial attache to Iran said.
“At present, we are trying to ease investment regulations and offer better services to economic players active in Iraq to boost trade ties between the two countries,” Shaker Razzaq Al-Da’mi was quoted as saying by IRNA.
The official has also announced that contracts have been signed for supplying sugar and vegetable oils to Iraq.
“Iranian companies need to be able to compete with their Chinese and Turkish counterparts in the Iraqi market by increasing the quality of their products and embarking upon more efficient marketing and advertising,” he said
According to Abdol’al Al-Yasiri, the head of Iraq’s Consulting and Investment Center, Iran exported about $5 billion worth of goods to Iraq last year.
