About 33,000 tons of seafood worth $95 million were exported five months into the current Iranian year (started March 20), registering a 52% and 38% rise in weight and value respectively compared with the similar period of last year, the head of Seafood Exporters Union said. “Exports mainly included shrimps, common carp, trout and conserved fish, which were shipped to Southeast Asia, Europe, littoral states of the Persian Gulf and Russia, which is a new market for us,” Ali Akbar Khodaei was also quoted as saying by Mehr News Agency. The official noted that seafood exports are expected to reach $380 million by the yearend.  Seafood exports stood at nearly $350 million last year. “Seafood imports during the period,” Khodaei added, “amounted to 26,500 tons worth $61.5 million, showing no significant difference compared with last year’s corresponding period.”
