Close to 159 tons of saffron worth $227 million were exported mainly to the UAE, China and Italy in the last Iranian year (ended March 20), according to the deputy head of Agricultural Jihad Ministry, Fars News Agency reported. Mitra Majdzadeh added that Iran produced about 280 tons of saffron over the period, accounting for 94% of global production. “Much of it was exported in bulk and packed by other countries,” she said.
