The construction of a new terminal for Kerman Province’s International Airport officially started on Thursday. “The new terminal will sit on a 20,000-square-meter area surrounded by 40,000 square meters of landscaping,” IRNA quoted head of Iranian Airports Company, Rahmatollah Mahabadi, as saying on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony. According to the official, the new terminal, which is anticipated to add 2.5 million passengers per year to Iran’s airports capacity, is estimated to need $51 million which will be funded by the private sector. International Civil Aviation Organization certified the 60-year-old airport as an international airport in June.
