Iran traded $909.02 million worth of non-oil goods with Indonesia in the last Iranian year (ended March 20, 2018), which was 144% more compared to the year before, making the Southeast Asian country Iran’s 20th biggest trading partner.
As per the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration’s data, Iran exported 1.98 million tons of commodities worth $645.33 million to Indonesia last year, posting a 133.58% and 272.69% decrease in tonnage and value respectively year-on-year.
The exports mainly included liquefied propane, liquefied butane and semi-finished metal or steel products.
Indonesia exported 343,843 tons of goods worth $263.69 million to Iran during the period, up 8.09% and 32.26% in tonnage and value respectively YOY.
Iran mainly imported aluminum oxide, paperboard material, and medium-density fibreboard from Indonesia during the period.
Speaking to IRNA, Iran’s commercial attaché in Indonesia, Anvar Kamari, said the average price for 1 ton of commodities sent to Indonesia increased from $204 in March 2016-17 to $332 in March 2017-18, meaning the Iranian products were exported with higher value-added.
“With a population of 260 million, Indonesia has a lot of potential in expanding economic relations with Iran, in the sectors of goods and services. Iranian firms are expected to target this country as an important export destination,” Kamari said.
