Kouhdom Gold Mine, located 110 kilometers northeast of the central city of Ardestan in Isfahan Province, has the capacity to produce 300 kilograms of gold every year once it comes into operation, said Gholamreza Hashemi, the contractor in charge of explorations in the region.
He added that complementary explorations for the mine are set to conclude in one month after which an extraction plant will be established near the site.
The project, which is among the development plans of Iran Minerals Production and Supply Company – a subsidiary of the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization, was launched in the last Iranian year (ended March 20, 2015).
“So far, 4 million tons of gold ore have been explored with a grade of 1-1.5 gram of pure gold in every ton of gold ore,” Eghtesad-News quoted Hashemi as saying.
According to the contractor, further explorations will substantially increase the proven reserves in Kouhdom.
Some 800 billion rials have been invested in the mine which is home to iron and copper reserves as well as gold.
Since the current administration came to power in 2013, great emphasis has been put on development projects for gold mines.
Zarshouran, in the northwestern province of West Azarbaijan, Mouteh in the central Isfahan Province and Sary Gunnay in the western Kurdestan Province are among the major gold mines in the country.
