Iran’s Renault Pars company will sign a contract with a European supplier and an Iranian company to produce anti-lock braking system or anti-skid braking system (ABS).
Renault Pars is a joint venture established in 2004 between the French auto giant and Iran’s Industrial Development Renovation Organization.
The company manages the assembly of completely knocked-down kits of Renault cars by local manufacturers IKCO and SAIPA.
According to a press release by the company sent to Financial Tribune, the overall planned contract is not restricted to manufacturing the ABS. Production of electric-power steering (EPS) will be added in the next phase of the contract.
The project to localize the ABS system will be launched in 2018. Currently, all Renault vehicles in Iran, including Tondar 90 (Renault Logan), Tondar Pickup, Sandero and Stepway are equipped with the ABS.
In a Saturday report by Khabar Online, Nasser Aghamohammadi, director of Pars Khodro, which produces the Sandero and Tondar, has said Renault has not renewed a production deal with his company.
