A local firm, Kian Motor Varna, has reportedly come to an import agreement deal with Chinese-German carmaker Borgward.
According to local automotive website Aval Khodro, the deal was signed over the weekend in Bremen, in Germany. No international news outlet or the carmaker has reported the deal yet.
Kian Motor, which is not well-known, doesn’t have an official website, and Financial Tribune was not been able to reach them.
The recently revived German luxury mark Borgward was earlier reported as saying it is negotiating with Iranian carmakers to launch joint production in the country.
Deputy director Tom Anliker said he recently visited Iran and met local automakers about prospects for a joint venture. “Negotiations have been held between Borgward and major Iranian carmakers including Iran Khodro and Bahman Group,” he was then quoted as saying by media outlets.
Anliker added, “There is significant demand for SUVs and crossovers in the Iranian market. Borgward intends to meet this need.”
While the import deal between Borgward and Kian Motor has been reportedly signed, local automotive websites had earlier said that Bahman Group is set to produce two models of Borgward SUVs, namely the BX5 and BX7, although neither Bahman Group nor the German company has so far confirmed the report. Bahman did not provide any information about the new development.
Registered in late 2015, Kian Motor has not publicized its activities so far and no news about its business’s operations was reported prior to the Borgward deal.
