Iran's Coal Concentrate Output Rises

Iran’s two major coal producers' concentrate output stood at 522,947 tons during the first nine months of the current fiscal year (March 21-Dec. 21) to register a 3% increase compared with last year’s corresponding period.

As reported by Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization, Tabas Parvadeh Coal Company accounted for 453,665 tons of the total figure.

Central Alborz Coal Company’s output stood at 69,282 tons. 

The two companies extracted a total of 1.31 million tons of coal in the nine months under review to post an 18% year-on-year rise. 

TPCCO accounted for 1.19 million tons and CACCO for 122,945 tons of the sum.

TPCCO located in the eastern South Khorasan Province and CACCO in the northern Mazandaran Province are both subsidiaries of IMIDRO. 

South Khorasan Province’s Tabas region possesses more than half of Iran’s coal reserves, with an estimated proven coal reserve of 2.5 billion tons.

This is while foreign trade statistics show Iran exported more than 441,000 tons of coal and coke worth $68.2 million during the same period to register a 138% and 234% increase in tonnage and value respectively year-on-year. 

A total of 521,300 tons of coal and coke worth $158.7 million were imported to Iran during the period, up 82% in tonnage and 127% in value YOY. 

According to IRNA, Iran’s current coking coal reserves stand at 1.2 billion tons and thermal coal reserves at 1.5 billion tons.
