Exports of nuts and dried fruits stood at $1 billion in the last Iranian year (March 2022-23), registering a 70% drop compared to $2.5 billion in the previous year, according to the secretary-general of Iran’s Nuts and Dried Fruits Exporters Union.
“China, India and Eurasian and Middle East countries are the main export destinations for Iranian nuts and dried fruit, but we will lose these markets in the future due to competitors like the US and Turkey,” Zeinolabedin Hashemi was also quoted as saying by IRIB News.
According to the official, one of the most important problems impeding the export of nuts and dried fruits is the Central Bank of Iran mandate for exporters to sell their export earnings at prices lower than market rates, which has discouraged many exporters.
