Travel Agencies Banned From Selling Tickets to Foreigners

Travel agencies, aircraft charter companies and online travel agencies are banned from selling flight tickets to foreign nationals, says Maqsoud Asadi-Samani, secretary of the Association of Iranian Airlines.
“Flight tickets will only be sold to foreign nationals through the website of airlines or at airlines’ offices,” he was quoted as saying by IRNA.
Asadi-Samani noted that the airlines need to have complete supervision over the sale of tickets.
Following a recent directive that ticket prices for non-Iranians be calculated at the US dollar rate, some airlines sold their tickets to foreigners instead of Iranian passengers, making tickets unavailable for Iranians.
Airline ticket prices of domestic flights for non-Iranian nationals will be calculated in terms of dollar, the Association of Iranian Airlines announced recently.
Tickets of domestic flights lasting under an hour will be sold at a ceiling of $100 and those taking more than an hour at $150, it explained.
The price of tickets on domestic routes will remain unchanged for those who have Iranian national ID code.
The decision has met with the disapproval of the Foreign Ministry that wrote a complaint letter to the Civil Aviation Organization of Iran, saying it will affect the foreign tourism sector.
The letter noted that 2 million Iraqis visit Iran every year and called for a reconsideration of the decision.
