The World Customs Organization has approved Iran as its regional detector dog training center.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration intends to carry out special programs for the development and improvement of its detector dog training center with the support of Education, Research and Empowerment Center, the International Cooperation Office and Management and Resources Development Office of IRICA,” Mehdi Mirashrafi, the head of IRICA, was quoted as saying by Mehr News Agency.
During a recent visit to IRICA’s detection dog training center, Mirashrafi learned about the daily missions of detector dog teams and thanked their human handlers for their performance under trying circumstances and their crucial detections. Since the use of trained dogs at customs, drug seizures have increased significantly.
For two consecutive years, IRICA was named the leading country in terms of drug seizures by the World Customs Organization.
