Exports from the northern Golestan Province stood at 141,000 tons worth about $80 million during the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March 20-Dec. 20), showing a 48% and 23% decline in weight and value respectively compared with the similar period of last year.
According to Director General of Golestan Customs Administration Ebrahim Hosseini, the exports mainly included cheese, iodine, polystyrene and tomato paste.
Iraq, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Afghanistan were the main destinations, IRNA reported.
The official blamed the decline in Golestan’s exports on Covid-19 restrictions. He added that around 7,568 tons of goods worth 13.04 million were imported into the province through Incheh Boroun rail and land border crossing during the nine-month period, registering a 77% and 71% decline respectively year-on-year.
“Egg hatching machine production line equipment, diesel electricity generators, raw soybean oil and barley were among our main imports into the province, which were mainly purchased from Turkey, China, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.”
Hosseini noted that Golestan’s customs revenues over the nine months stood at $479,000.
Incheh Boroun located in the city of Gonbad-e Kavus is Golestan’s only border checkpoint, which offers transportation and transit services via rail and road.
