IranAir, the country’s national flag carrier airline, will launch roundtrip Dubai-Lamerd-Dubai flights as of Sept. 27, the director of Lamerd International Airport says.
“The flight will operate on Sundays using ATR 72,” Sohrab Azizi was also quoted as saying by the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development's news service.
Lamerd International Airport’s new passenger terminal was inaugurated on April 23 by President Hassan Rouhani via videoconference.
“The airport's passenger capacity has now increased from 150,000 to 900,000 per year,” Siavash Amirmokri, managing director of Iran Airports Company, said.
The airport is located in the city of Lamerd, the capital of Lamerd County in the southern Fars Province.
The expansion of the terminal, spread over 5,500 square meters, started in the fiscal 2014-15. More than 400 billion rials ($1.46 million) have been invested in the project.
According to Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami, Iran's airport capacity has increased by 10 million passengers per year since President Hassan Rouhani first took office in August 2013.
Eslami noted that 20 new projects in the aviation industry will become operational by the end of the current Iranian year (March 2021).
