A total of 2,654 hectares of greenhouses were constructed and 539 hectares were renovated in Iran in the last Iranian year (March 2018-19).
These projects have created more than 32,000 direct and 64,000 indirect jobs, Fars News Agency reported.
The report also says that the construction and renovation of greenhouses has helped save 360 million cubic meters of water and increase agro production by 950,000 tons per year.
The Agriculture Ministry plans to increase the area to more than 48,000 hectares by 2025. 
According to the head of Greenhouse Expansion Project, undertaken by the Ministry of Agriculture Valiollah Bani-Ameri, the ministry expects to produce 21 million tons of agricultural products via greenhouses per year.
Iran ranks second globally in the expansion of greenhouse area after Mexico.
The Agriculture Ministry plans to transfer all vegetable farms to greenhouses within 10 years to save 10 billion cubic meters of water per year.
According to Deputy Agriculture Minister Mohammad Ali Tahmasebi, the construction of every 1 square meter of a greenhouse in Iran costs between $1,000 and $2,000.
Iran is home to a meager 0.3% of the world’s greenhouses.
