Ketabsara Publishes Talat  Bassari’s ‘Women in Shahnameh’

Ketabsara Publications, based in Tehran, has released a book on the female characters in the Shahnameh, (Book of Kings) the longest epic title in poems written by Persian poet Ferdowsi (940-1020).
Titled “Women of Shahnameh” the research book is by university instructor, poet, writer and researcher Talat Bassari, Mehr News Agency reported on its Persian website. 
In the 347-page book, she introduces each character separately and explains their role in Shahnameh and brings all the verses Ferdowsi has composed about them. Soudabeh, wife of Kay Kavous, shah of Iran, and stepmother of prince Siavash; Tahmineh, wife of Rostam, the leading hero in Shahnameh; Gordafarid, a champion who is a symbol of courage and wisdom for Iranian women; and Faranak, mother of Fereydoun, a hero from the kingdom of Varna, known as an emblem of victory, justice and generosity in Persian literature are examples of the characters mentioned in the book.
