Directing and acting courses by Iranian filmmaker Reza Dormishian and actor and theater director Parsa Pirouzfar will be held at Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City on December 11-12. Organized by the Vietnam Cinema Association, the workshops are open to filmmakers, directors, screenwriters, cameramen, stage designers, make-up artists and students, IRNA reported. Making short films since 2002, Dormishian, 35, is one of the distinguished directors of Iranian cinema. His films have been received well by the people, critics and international festivals because of their social themes and modern structure. Lantouri (2016), ‘I’m not Angry’ (2014) and ‘Hatred’ (2014) are among his better known films. A graduate of painting from the University of Tehran, Pirouzfar, 45, made his film debut by playing a brief role in Dariush Mehrjui’s ‘Pari’ in 1994. As a theater director, Pirouzfar has staged Yasmina Reza’s play ‘Art’ in 2001, David Mamet’s ‘Glengarry Glen Ross’ in 2011 and Marie Jones’ ‘Stones in His Pockets’ in 2013 among others. Besides directing, he has acted in the plays as well. He has been teaching acting since 2004. He has played in over 20 films, plays and TV series and won several awards including Best Actor Award at the Osian Cinefan Festival of Asian Cinema, India, 2005 for ‘Tear of Cold’. To promote the country’s film industry, Vietnam Cinema Association has invited cineastes from around the globe to hold workshops in the southeast Asian country and help promote its film industry.
