12 Iranian Projects Win Asia Architecture Awards

The winning projects from Iran constituted almost 40% of the total winners, a huge success for Iran’s architecture

Twelve Iranian architecture groups are among the final winners of the 2017 2A Asia Architecture Award.

The winners were announced on Oct. 20 at a ceremony held at Estrel Hotel of Berlin, Germany, and organized by 2A Magazine in the presence of the head of the award organizing committee, Iranian architecture publisher and researcher, Ahmad Zohadi.

For this year’s 2A award, 473 projects were submitted, of which 31 projects in seven categories won the top three awards, the event’s website announced.

All the submissions were assessed by the jury in line with the award’s main goals defined as, “to identify essences of architecture in Asia and to glorify the importance of social and cultural identity and significance of spirituality along with physical aspects of architecture”.

Iran’s winning projects constituted almost 40% of the total winners, which mark a huge success for Iran’s architecture.

  Iranian Winners

Mohammed Rasulallah Mosque designed by Paya Payrang architectural group and Tehran Book Garden designed by Sam Tehranchi were placed second in Public Spaces category.

In the Old and New category, Amir Hossein Ash’ari was ranked second for his project named ‘Triangle Café’.

The three awards for Urban Projects, Rural Projects and Landscape & Public Spaces categories were received by three Iranian projects named ‘Isfahk Historic Village Revitalization & Restoration Project’ designed by Faramarz Parsi (Third Place), ‘The Pause’ by Amir Hossein Ash’ari (Second Place), and ‘Hidden Pictograms Recreation of a Social/Cultural Pedestrian Path’ by Mohammad Mohammadzadeh (First Place).

The second place of Interior Architecture category was jointly awarded to three projects, two of which were from Iran, ‘Venus Glass Office’ designed by Reza Najafian and ‘Renovation of Private Clinic’ by Hamed Badri Ahmadi and Morteza Shabanifar.

The top award of this category was also gained by Iranian project ‘Gold Gallery 28’ designed by 2 Point.

‘Coral Seafood Restaurant’ designed by Farshad Kazerouni, Farnaz Bakhshi and Azin Soltani and ‘Jiroft Elementary School’ project by Mohammad Arab, Mina Moeineddini and Elaheh Hajdaei were two of the three winners of the Second Pace Award in the Future Projects and Innovative Designs category.
