A painting by renowned painter Houshang Pezeshknia (1918-1972), a pioneer of modernism in Iran, has been stolen from Mahe-Mehr Art & Cultural Institute in Tehran.

The 50x70 cm painting was created in the 1960’s. It is among Pezeshknia’s many works that show his preoccupation about hardworking people.

Mahe-Mehr Institute has sent a picture of the painting to a number of art collectors and noted that trade in stolen artwork is against the law, Honaronline reported.

Anyone who has information about the painting is requested by Mahe-Mehr institute to call telephone number 021-22059131.

Located at No. 7, Niloufar Street, Africa Blvd., the institute has a wide range of cultural activities and owns a gallery, a bookstore, an art school and a visual art magazine.

Pezeshknia is better known for his bold strokes and angular lines, depicting themes such as loneliness, desolation and agitation. He usually searched for Iranian identity outside the cities and spent considerable time in rural areas, particularly in southern Iran. His works are sold at auctions around the world.
