The fourth edition of the traditional music competition Homayoun Khorram Festival and Prize also known as Khorram Tone will be held in Tehran in December.

Commemorating the late traditional musician Homayoun Khorram (1930-2013), the event is organized to support Iran’s classical music by identifying children and adolescents,  under 18, active in the field, playing music or singing, and honoring them as they are the future of the domestic music industry, IRNA reported.

Khorram was a musician, composer, violinist, and a member of the high council of Iran’s house of music. Due to his musical talent and passion, he started to work as a leading composer at the National Radio at the age of 21.

During his career especially as a soloist and composer in the famous radio musical program ‘Golha’ (flowers), he composed many songs for notable singers including Hossein Ghavami and Mohammadreza Shajarian. He also made over hundreds of instrumental pieces for violin and orchestra overtures in collaboration with outstanding contemporary artists such as Javad Maroufi, Jalil Shahnaz, and Farhang Sharif.

In his last years, he worked with talented traditional singers Mohammad Esfahani and Alireza Ghorbani.

Performances of children and adolescents at the fourth Khorram Tone will be held at Niavaran and Arasbaran Cultural Centers on December 7-8 and 13-14 respectively. The closing ceremony where winners will be awarded is slated for December 15 at Vahdat Hall.
