A poster exhibition by artist Mahdi Fatehi opened at ‘Cité internationale des arts’, an art foundation, in Paris on Monday.
The exhibit shows a selection of posters, some of which have won awards at various festivals, designed by Fatehi, 35, a well-known illustrator and poster designer, Mehr News Agency reported.
During the event, a book titled ‘Present Perfect’, which is a collection of his works, will be unveiled as well. In the book introduction, veteran graphic artists Qobad Shiva and Ebrahim Haqiqi and actor Reza Kianian have written about Fatehi’s works.
Although he belongs to the generation that witnessed the digital revolution, Fatehi chooses to compose his posters with traditional techniques such as silkscreen print and flat colors.
In a minimalist approach to design, the artist articulates image and text in a palette reduced to only two or three colors. He thus steps away from certain current trends which favor profuse digital colors to create clean, powerful, and distinctive images.
He had displayed the same works last winter at Sales Gallery in Tehran.
Fatehi holds a master’s degree in Graphic Design from Azad Art and Architecture University. He is a member of the Iranian Institute for the Promotion of Visual Arts and has won various awards including the Bronze Prize at the 8th International Triennial of Stage Poster in Sofia, Bulgaria in 2016 and the Bronze Prize in 10th International Poster Triennial, Toyama, Japan in 2012.
His works have been part of biennials and group exhibitions in Japan, Ukraine, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Peru, Finland, France and China.
The Paris exhibit will continue until June 10.
