Iranian filmmaker Yousef Kargar has been selected as a member of the international selection board as well as juror for the competition section of the 4th International Festival Cinema Povero, in Italy.
A member of Urmia office of Iranian Youth Cinema Society, Kargar has introduced a number of his short films to the Italian festival since its first edition and won its jury special award as well, Mehr News Agency reported.
An acclaimed director, he has attended over 50 international film festivals with his 2015 short film ‘Elegy’, and bagged almost 10 awards. ‘Elegy’ narrates the story of an old man who has been waiting for the return of his missing son for 25 years.
Born in Urmia city, northwestern Iran, Kargar, 32, holds a masters degree in cinema. Since 2002, he has been a film critic and written in many publications.
Established in 2014, Cinema Povero seeks to contribute to the knowledge and diffusion of the cinematographic art and celebrate independent films. It aims to give visibility to directors who, with their creative expression through cinema, can produce works at zero cost or low budget.
The event holds a social and cultural approach to the discovery and introduction of short filmmaking talents in the field of short films and documentaries. The fourth edition is slated for September 20-23 in the Italian town of Ispra.
