Oskouei on Int’l Film Festival Jury

Acclaimed Iranian documentarian Mehrdad Oskouei has been invited by the organizers of the Jean Rouch International Film Festival to serve as a jury member in the 36th edition of the event to be held in November in Paris.

Oskouei won the festival’s Nanook Grand prix in the 2016 edition for his multi-award-winning work ‘Starless Dreams’, Mehr News Agency reported. 

Born in Tehran, Oskouei, 47, is a film director, producer, photographer and researcher, who graduated in directing from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Tehran. His films have been shown at festivals worldwide and received several awards.

Since 1982, the Museum of Man in Paris has held the festival which in particular shows ethnographic documentaries. The event named after the French ethnologist filmmaker Jean Rouch (1917-2004), provides an opportunity for filmmakers, researchers, producers, anthropological festival programmers from around the world and the public to meet, discuss and exchange ideas on the related themes.

The festival selects films that document and explore human societies and cultures in their many facets, such as social and cultural diversity, continuity and change, cultural transmission, relationship to the environment.
