Four Iranian illustrators are among the winners of the Golden Pinwheel International Young Illustrators Competition which were announced last week during the Shanghai International Children’s Book Fair in China.

In the picture book category, Fatemeh Nakhaei won the Grand Prix in the international section, Banafsheh Erfanian and Ali Qorbani-Moqaddam won the Awards of Excellence and Mahshid Reqemi won the Publishers’ Choice Award, Mehr News Agency reported.

From the total of 338 submissions, 53 were selected by the jury and made it to the final round; there were 23 Iranian artists among the finalists.

The finalists’ artworks were exhibited at the Shanghai Book Fair (November 18-20) and published in the competition catalogue.

According to the competition website, illustration plays an essential role in contemporary children’s literature. A dynamic and creative field, it has gone through significant changes over the last decades as it constantly offers new and highly stimulating ways to trigger the children’s imagination.

Emerging artists need as many opportunities as possible to introduce themselves to the global publishing community and to other industries that rely on their creativity and skills to flourish. The competition is meant to serve as a long-lasting community for young talents who like to share experience and discover about each other’s art.
