Three Iranian films won top prizes at the 4th Silk Road Film Festival (SRFF) held in Dublin, Ireland in March.

‘Ranna’s Silence’ directed by Behzad Rafiei’s won the Best Children’s Film Award, ‘Two’ by Soheila Golestani earned the Jury Special Recognition and ‘Jaws’ by Almas Ferdowsi was awarded for the Best Short Film, Mehr News Agency reported.

‘Ranna’s Silence’ is about seven-year-old Ranna, who is obsessive about her pet hen. The obsessions get more complicated when one day she finds the bird gone.

In a review of the film, critic Michael Lee has praised the work saying, “Rafiei’s versatile direction brings a genuine sense of allure and childlike naivety to the world of the story. With a carefully measured balance of comedy and drama, there is an understated simplicity to the visual approach which aids the story subtly.”

The movie has so far participated in the 9th International Children’s Film Festival ‘Filem’ON’, Belgium, and Cinekid Film, Television and New Media Festival in the Netherlands.

‘Two’ is about a woman in her 40s who is hired to help Bahman who has returned home from abroad and wants to sell his father’s house “with everything in it.”

The film attended the 9th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, Estonia and Cine-Iran Festival of Toronto, Canada in 2015. It is produced by well-known actor Parviz Parastui, who is also in the cast.

‘Jaws’, running for 15 minutes, tells the story of a 40-year-old lift-man, who is disconnected from the outside world.

The SRFF is held annually in March in Dublin. Over a hundred films were screened in this year’s edition of the festival from regions, which were once part of the historical network of the Silk Road ancient trade routes particularly from Asian, Arab, Persian, African, Mediterranean and European cinema.

The event has film screenings, premieres, exhibitions, panels, chats with industry guests, free courses and workshops.
