Defending champion Iran, which has lifted four of the last five Greco-Roman Wrestling  World Cups, came in third after beating Turkey 6-2 on the last and final day of the event at the Azadi Sports Complex on Thursday in Tehran.

Azerbaijan   was first and Russia second.

Contributing to the victory over the Turks were 2014 Yadegar Imam Cup winner Mohsen Hajipour (59kg), world and Asian Games bronze medal winner Afshin Byabangard (66kg), junior world runner-up at 75kg Payam Bouyeri (71kg) and Asian Games gold medalist Mehdi Aliyari (98kg).

The national Iranian squad enjoyed the backing of 6000-strong spectators who were present throughout the competition as Iran’s passion for wrestling was once again on display.
