Iran's Sarakhs land border with Turkmenistan is open until Sept. 24, according to Mohammad Mehdi Rezaei, director of Sarakhs Border Terminal.
Turkmenistan opened the crossing on Sept.14 for 10 days.
The two countries’ officials have agreed to allow 10 Iranian trucks cross the transit bridge 100 meters into the territory of Turkmenistan. The cargo will then be transferred from Iranian vehicles to Turkmen, which will deliver the cargo to its destination in Turkmenistan or to a third country.
Turkmen trucks will deliver the cargo to its final destination and return the empty trailer to Iranian drivers at Sarakhs, IRNA reported.
A similar operation is possible for Turkmen trucks entering Iran. Turkmenistan is carrying out the same method of cross-border trade with Uzbekistan through Alat customs checkpoint,” he said.
Earlier this month, Rezaei said the transit bridge on the border of Iran-Turkmenistan was opened temporarily for vehicular movement for three days after a six-month pandemic hiatus. But only one commercial freight carrier crossed Iran’s border into the neighboring country.
Turkmenistan closed its land border with Iran’s Sarakhs in Khorasan Razavi Province on Thursday after a short stint of reopening.
