Around 18,300 tons of chinaware were produced during the five months of the current Iranian year (started March 20), registering a 10% decrease compared with the corresponding period of last year, according to figures released by the Ministry of Industries, Mining and Trade.

On average, Iran produces more than 50,000 tons of chinaware annually, 10% of which are exported to Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia. Among the country’s main export destinations are Iraq, Turkey, Georgia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Russia, the UAE, Kazakhstan and Armenia.

Unofficial reports indicate that nearly 7,000 to 8,000 tons of chinaware are imported into Iran every year, IRNA reported.

Iran ranks third in the world in chinaware production after China and Germany.

The report also indicates that the production of porcelain sanitary-ware in the five-month period amounted to 26,900 tons, registering a 17.7% decrease compared with the similar period of last year.

Last Iranian year (March 2015-16), 31,000 tons of sanitary-ware worth $22 million were exported, showing a 9% and 22% decline in weight and value respectively compared with the previous year. Iraq, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan were the main export destinations.

The report says glassware production during the five-month period stood at close to 188,500 tons, indicating a 5.7% increase compared with the corresponding period of last year.
