Iran Signs Energy Deal With Germany’s SAG

German energy services company SAG Group has signed a memorandum of understanding with Iran Power and Water Equipment and Service Export Company (SUNIR) on engineering and implementation of power transmission lines as well as electricity generation and distribution.

According to SUNIR’s official website, the companies have agreed to cooperate in implementing projects, as well as in financing, training and technology transfer, IRNA reported on Wednesday.

SAG is one of the leading service and system suppliers for electrical power, gas, water and telecommunication networks.

SUNIR is currently involved in several projects in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Oman, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka and Armenia, including the implementation of the first phase of a 500-kilovolt power transmission line in Pakistan, SUNIR’s first 500 kV project abroad.

During the first half of the last Iranian year (ended March 19), SUNIR exported about $1 billion worth of electricity, goods and engineering and technical services.

The MoU marks the first venture of the German company with an Iranian energy enterprise.

Bahman Salehi, SUNIR’s managing director, also said his company, which has 22 years of experience in the energy sector, has executed projects in countries with high risks such as Iraq and Syria.

“To increase its activities and presence in international markets, SUNIR cooperates with large companies from European countries like Germany,” he added.

Iran is the largest electricity producer in the Middle East and 14th in the world in terms of installed power electricity that currently stands at over 75,000 megawatts.
