Italian energy company Carlo Maresca will participate in the construction of a 50-megawatt solar power plant in the Persian Gulf’s Iranian island Qeshm.

After meeting Carlo Maresca’s Managing Director Fabio Maresca, Hamid Reza Momeni, managing director of Qeshm Free Trade Zone, referred to Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi’s last week visit to Tehran, and called the deal with the Italian company as one of the achievements of the visit in the post-sanctions era, Mehr News Agency reported.

Carlo Maresca group has worked throughout Italy in the field of construction for over 50 years, in tourism for about 20 years and, recently, in renewable energy.

“Iran-Italy economic relations have entered a new stage with the removal of sanctions against Iran and the Qeshm FTZ has become the center of attention for many Europeans, including Italian economic activists,” Momeni said.

Fabio Maresca also said his company is ready to build the first solar power plant in Qeshm, after obtaining the required permissions, within eight months.

The memorandum of understanding was initially due to be signed in the presence of Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani and Italian Premier Matteo Renzi in Tehran, which was then canceled due to the Italian 250-strong delegation’s tight schedule.
