Russia is cancelling import tariff on four Iranian products, namely pistachio, date, raisin and celery, the deputy head of Iran-Russia Chamber of Commerce announced.  “According to Russia’s Federal Customs Service, Iran’s exports to Russia saw a year-on-year rise of 69% in the first quarter of the current Iranian year (started March 20), thanks to the mutual customs agreement known as ‘Green Corridor’,” Fars News Agency also quoted Qadir Qiyafeh as saying. The agreement, which was first proposed by Russian Minister of Agriculture Alexander Nikolayevich Tkachyov during his visit to Iran back in January, is aimed at easing customs formalities to speed up the clearance of Iranian agricultural exports to Russia. The Green Corridor initially sought to replace Turkish exports of agricultural products to Russia with Iranian goods amid tensions between Moscow and Ankara over the downing of a Russian fighter jet over Syria by Turkish military in November 2015.  The tension thawed lately after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent a letter to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin calling for the restoration of bilateral ties. The Green Corridor still holds, however. Last week, Tehran sent a list of licensed Iranian traders for implementation of the agreement to Russian customs officials.  Tkachyov’s deputy, Sergei Levin, has said the corridor will become operational “at full strength” by the end of 2016.
