Iran is eying stone exports to Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States, said a deputy minister of industries, mining and trade. Speaking on the sidelines of an exhibition titled “Stone Industry 2016” in Moscow on Wednesday, Jafar Sargheyni added that the domestic stone industry’s export potential remains untapped, IRNA reported. “Iran’s 150 stone mines with about 4.5 billion tons of reserves currently earn only $200 million from exports every year. This is while Iran is capable of annually exporting up to $1 billion worth of building stones to Russia and CIS countries alone,” he added. The four-day exhibition in Moscow opened on Tuesday and is being attended by companies from China, Italy, Greece, India, Turkey and Egypt.
