Preliminary results of the ninth round of quadrennial elections of Iranian chambers of commerce show 16,412 economic players have chosen their representatives for 33 provincial commerce chambers (except for Bandar Abbas).
Masoud Khansari, the incumbent chairman of Tehran Chamber’s “Coalition for Tomorrow”, won a resounding victory. Gholamhossein Shafei, the president of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, was also elected for Mashhad Chamber of Commerce, ICCIMA's news portal reported.
All provincial chambers have 15 representatives. The board of directors of each chamber consists of five elected members.
The highest voter turnout was recorded for Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, followed by Isfahan, Tabriz and Mashhad chambers while turnout was the lowest for Yasouj, Khorramabad and Semnan.
A total of 3,384 votes were cast for Tehran's chamber of commerce, setting a record for private sector elections in the capital city.
A total of 1,547 candidates vied for 535 new seats as representatives of the private sector in the Saturday elections.
