Italian cultural attaché to Tehran, professor of Iranian Studies at Sapienza University of Rome, Carlo Giovanni Cereti, and Italian deputy head of mission Maurizio Antonini, met Ali Fereydouni, director general of the Office for Associations and Cultural Activities, affiliated to the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, to discuss cultural collaboration.

The two sides discussed ways to further promote cultural cooperation in areas of common interest, IRNA reported.

"The strong cultural ties and enthusiasm between Iran and Italy has resulted in Italy being chosen the guest of honor at the 30th Tehran International Book Fair 2017," Fereydouni said.

Cereti suggested that an exhibition of geographical maps, including those mentioning the 'Persian Gulf,' be organized at the National Library of Iran to coincide with the book fair n spring.

Such an exhibition could also include Persian manuscripts, Qur'an manuscripts and books of classical Persian literature that have been preserved in Italy.

Among other proposals was the translation of Persian books into Italian. The two sides are working out the modalities of such a project, Fereydouni said.
