The festival of Barana Music Nights, the first of its series, will be held on August 10-19 at Tehran's Golestan Palace.
Featuring seven performances by renowned musicians from Iran and elsewhere, the event is in support of children suffering from cancer and also to promote musicians, Honaronline reported.
The participating artists include Iranian Armenian composer and conductor Loris Tjeknavorian, 78; the family ensemble of The Kamkars; Iranian US-based composer, conductor, violinist and pianist Shahrdad Rouhani, 61; tanbur player Keykhosro Pournazeri, 71, leading his ensemble Shams; his son Sohrab, 33, who is a composer and player of kamancheh (Iranian bowed string instrument) and tanbur; and Spanish flamenco composer and guitarist Antonio Rey, 34.
The festival features fusion performances by Pallet ensemble with contrabass, clarinet, accordion, guitar and cello. For the event, the alternative rock band Comment together with Damahi ensemble, known for its fusion pieces, will give a joint performance.
The festival has earmarked 5% of the earnings from the tickets sold for cancer-afflicted children undergoing treatment at Mahak charity society. A part of it will also be contributed for musicians in the area of health and welfare.
The festival secretariat is planning to organize more such events in cooperation with artists and the private sector. The upcoming festival is conducted under the auspices of Barana Institute of Art, Kar-o-Andisheh company and Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization.
